MOCA Review #5

The piece I selected this week is called "apink3" by H. Gay Allen. This piece stood out to me for several reasons. It is very simplistic but at the same time also very extravagant. The colors make the flower (or what I believe to be a flower) stand out. The black background also makes the flower stick out because of the sharp contrast.
Although there is not much said specifically with the piece itself, there is information relating to the artist. The artist H. Gay Allen received her bachelors degree in Art and her Masters in Health Sciences. She has sold "over 200 pieces of pottery, [wrote] hundreds of pieces of poetry, many published, [and created] murals and paintings for sale" using her creativity. Although it does not say how she created this specific works it can be assumed that it is photo based and was more than likely edited using software like Photoshop.

  1. I think you are right... it began as a Calla Lilly and then filters were applied...

  2. This is really nice, the color of the Lilly and what surrounds it in contrast goes well together.
