MOCA Review #4

For this MOCA Review, I decided to discuss this painting called Pir by Pavel Melnichuk. This painting stuck out to me because of its form as well as its colors. The organization of these two aspects are intricate and illusive. But more than that, I feel that one can take their own interpretation of what the work can be.

The artist, Pavel Melnichuk, is a "self-taught artist" from Ukraine. He says that he "was inspired by digital technologies that facilitate the fusion of art and science". Along with that, he feels that digital processing is "much more" than "a set of tools and techniques". He believes that digital processing "breaks through rigid blocks of stereotypes, changes the idea of harmony itself, causes the mysterious transformations to happen somewhere on the edge of our consciousness". According to the MOCA website, Pavel started painting "using Wacom tablet with digital brushes from Adobe Photoshop". It also says that his works are "digitally painted by scratch" and some are combined with photographed textures.
