MOCA Review #5

The piece I selected this week is called "apink3" by H. Gay Allen. This piece stood out to me for several reasons. It is very simplistic but at the same time also very extravagant. The colors make the flower (or what I believe to be a flower) stand out. The black background also makes the flower stick out because of the sharp contrast.
Although there is not much said specifically with the piece itself, there is information relating to the artist. The artist H. Gay Allen received her bachelors degree in Art and her Masters in Health Sciences. She has sold "over 200 pieces of pottery, [wrote] hundreds of pieces of poetry, many published, [and created] murals and paintings for sale" using her creativity. Although it does not say how she created this specific works it can be assumed that it is photo based and was more than likely edited using software like Photoshop.

Fractal Art Images

Fractal Lab Video Response

A few seconds into this video, I was immediately surprised by how detailed this shape was. You can see every indent and mark in the shape. I was also surprised that this shape was rendered by Safari web browser. But while I continued to watch the video, this part stood out to me. The creator added cylinders and to me it looked like the shape was going to evolve into something else entirely.

Apophysis

I had a lot of fun playing with the images generated by Apophysis.  I spent a lot of time trying to predict the changes I would make by playing with the transforms, but I didn't have a lot of luck - there's a lot going on behind the scenes with this program!!

The first image is my favorite, I was able to manipulate the colors and the transforms until I came up with something that resembles a brain.

MOCA Week 4

This week I picked an image by the artist Georgia Bassen titled Fading Man.  There wasn’t any information about this artist on the MOCA web site, nor was there very much on her personal web page.  All that I could learn was that she works in a variety of mediums, silver, metal clay, Pate de Verre, cold enameling, and digital imaging.

I picked this image because I was drawn to the surrealistic, fantastical aspects of the image.  It appears as though someone is looking through a lens from a different dimension.

Moca Week 3

Art work by Laszio Bagi Jr.. This particular piece is very interesting. I love liquid art and how he uses liquid method to expand the forms into circles and spheres. Laszio Bagi Jr. is a graphic designer, specializes in 21st century optical art. His work transform flat shapes into beautiful 3D objects. Represent in 3 dimension, the circles turn into spheres, squares and rectangles into cylinders cuboids and cubes. He'd main theme is objects, such as reflection and transparency.
